Will Rock Wool Insulation Help Reduce Noise in My Condo?

Hey everyone! I live in a condo that has absolutely no sound insulation—it's not even required by code. I'm on the second floor with a third floor above me, and I've got the green light from my HOA to open up the ceiling and add insulation. I'm getting quotes and thinking of moving forward. My question is, will rock wool actually help reduce impact noise from the floor above? I get that it won't soundproof everything, but how effective is it really? I'm also planning to create some DIY acoustic panels with Owens Corning material. Do you think that combination will make a difference? I've been having a hard time sleeping because of all the noise, and moving to a house isn't an option for me right now. I'm exploring all possible solutions before deciding what to do next.

Hey there! Using rock wool insulation can definitely help with sound dampening since it absorbs some noise. A tip I’ve picked up is that adding a second layer of drywall to your ceiling can really amp up the noise reduction too—more mass usually means less sound transferring through. Definitely worth discussing with your contractor!
