I'm planning to spray paint my basement ceiling using Dryfall, but I've heard that a respirator is necessary for safety. I'm curious if it's okay to do this while keeping the windows and cellar door open and wearing a mask. I have a short beard, so I'm worried about getting a good seal on my respirator. What health risks should I be aware of? Is it really as dangerous as some people say?

If you're set on painting, a heavy layer of petroleum jelly on your beard can help seal the space where the mask meets your face. A lot of guys in my past job used this method, but fair warning: it's a messy cleanup process afterward!
Honestly, I'd strongly advise against spray painting without a respirator. The particles can be really fine, and breathing them in could lead to headaches or more severe respiratory issues. It's just not worth the risk, even if you open windows.
If you have high ceilings, make sure to check your setup. Dryfall needs at least a 10-foot drop to convert to that powdery finish. Just a heads up! Plus, if you're using a respirator, either shave or find a positive pressure hood for better protection.
