I'm trying to install R-11 Kraft paper insulation that's been around for about 30 years, and I've heard that lapping the Kraft paper facing is the right method. However, I'm a bit unsure and want to avoid making mistakes during the installation. Any advice on the best way to do this? Here's a visual reference: https://imgur.com/a/YClWhDM.

You definitely want the Kraft paper facing the heated side of the wall. The best practice is to lap those flanges over the studs and staple them to the face or sides. This method keeps everything tight and helps with insulation efficiency.
From what I’ve gathered, many old-timers recommend inset stapling for a smoother finish when you drywall over it. Depending on where you are, face stapling the overlaps might be necessary to meet insulation inspection codes. Here, inspectors tend to prefer face-stapled areas for that reason. It's all about minimizing compression and maintaining a continuous vapor barrier.
