Hey everyone! I'm getting ready to seed a pretty large patch of ground and I've recently added some fresh topsoil while clearing out most of the stones. The issue is that the soil is a bit wet and sticky right now, which complicates things. Typically, I just walk over the area after seeding to improve seed-to-soil contact, but with this sticky soil, I keep pulling up clumps onto my boots, and I'm worried about uprooting the seeds. I don't have a roller and not looking to buy one since I wouldn't use it again. I'm considering using a wooden plank to press down the seeds after throwing them, but that sounds like it could be time-consuming. Should I wait for the soil to dry up a bit (which isn't happening quickly with the forecast) or get my seeds down ASAP since I've got a deadline coming up? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Just throw the seeds down and leave them be! As long as they make contact with the soil, they'll germinate just fine. Just watch out for birds—they might think you've set up a feast for them!
I’d suggest lightly raking the seeds into the soil and letting nature do its thing with the rain. That should help them settle without needing a roller!
