How to Find Apprenticeship Opportunities in Small Workshops?

Asked By CraftyPenguin42 On

I'm looking for advice on finding apprenticeship opportunities, particularly in smaller workshops. I previously worked with a furniture maker for over a year while I was in college, but he sadly passed away. Since then, I've done a few small projects, but I really miss working in that environment and would love to transition to a career in woodworking. The issue is that most job listings I find are for large cabinet shops, which isn't what I'm looking for. Any tips on uncovering those hidden opportunities?

One of the best ways to find opportunities is to directly reach out to local small shops. Just introduce yourself and ask if they have any openings or advice. A lot of times, places might not even advertise openings but would be open to the idea. It’s all about making connections!

That’s great advice! But finding these smaller shops can be tricky for me. I'm not sure where to even look. Do you have specific sites or resources in mind?

Definitely keep an eye on roles like 'furniture repair' too! I recently came across a shop in Ann Arbor that might be worth checking out: bkwoodworking.com. You could also find local listings through woodworking forums or community boards.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll check it out as soon as I can.
