Hey everyone! I've been really interested in woodworking for a while now, but I'm a bit stuck because my workspace is just a non-enclosed garage. I can't fit a full power tool setup, but I'm thinking hand tools might be a fun way to start. One of my main concerns is how to keep my tools in good condition since I live in the hot and humid South. I'm considering building a tool chest early on to help with storage. Any tips or suggestions on how to protect my tools while keeping them in the garage? Thanks!

In my unconditioned garage, I keep rust-prone tools in a wooden cabinet, clean and oiled, laid on wax paper. I toss in some dehydrating packets too and have had no issues so far. It doesn’t get as bad here in the Northeast, but it can get really humid in the summer.
You should definitely check out "The Anarchist's Toolchest" book. It’s a fantastic resource on selecting and buying hand tools, and it covers how to build a tool chest for storage too!
A tool chest with silica gel packs can really help keep rust at bay. Just combine that with a light coat of machine oil or paste wax. The bigger silica packs usually come with indicators showing when they need recharging in the microwave, so that’s handy!

I've heard great things about that book! Gonna grab a copy myself!
