I'm setting up my dust extraction system and have a Shop Fox W1826 1HP unit with a 4" trunk. I'm considering adding a Y junction that reduces to a 2" hose for connecting tools like my chop saw, track saw, and sander. I've heard from a YouTube video that this setup might not work effectively due to velocity issues at the end of the 2" hose. Can anyone clarify if this is true and how poorly it might perform? I'm weighing this option against using a dedicated shop vac for my chop saw and sanding areas.

Adding a 2" line to your system can work, but it depends on the length of your runs. Generally, dust collectors like yours can pull air through a 2" pipe, but the drag from the smaller diameter and bends can reduce efficiency. Just try to keep your runs as short as possible and manage your branches wisely; turning off unused ones can help.
