I found some blank wall plates installed in my house, and when I opened them up, it looks like there's just more wall behind them. These plates are located between two closets. I'm curious if I can replace one of them with an Ethernet port or an electrical outlet. It would be super convenient, but I don't want to mess anything up. Anyone have insights on this?

Those blank plates can often lead to convenient upgrades! Take a closer look around the edges—some folks leave space for wiring to be added later. Just make sure to assess what’s behind the plate before making any changes!
Yes, you can definitely use those blank wall plates for an Ethernet port or an outlet! Just keep in mind that while the wall plates are easy to deal with, running the wiring might be a bit of a hassle due to the routing involved.
Most likely, the previous owner had plans to install something there but just ended up closing it off. Sometimes, you’ll find old phone lines or similar setups hidden behind those plates. It might be worth checking to see if there’s any conduit behind the opening to help with fishing new wires.
