Hey everyone! We recently moved into a house in a 55+ community, and my husband is new to home ownership while I've previously lived in houses but never had to manage everything myself. During the inspection, it was pointed out that our house, built 21 years ago and previously occupied by an elderly resident, could use quite a bit of cleaning, especially the vents. The dryer cleaning is obvious, but I'm puzzled about the timing — should I have the vents cleaned before we paint the entire interior or after? The vents are quite dirty, and I just want to make sure we're doing it in the right order. It's like a classic chicken vs. egg scenario for me! Thanks for any advice!

I'd recommend cleaning the vents first, then cleaning the walls and ceilings before you start painting. If you clean the vents later, you'll end up with lint and dirt getting trapped in your fresh paint, which is definitely something you want to avoid!
Thanks for the quick response! That definitely makes sense. Just a quick question — since we're not exactly spry these days, how does vent cleaning work? Should the company I hire take care of cleaning the vent covers too, or would I need to hire a house cleaner for that?

Totally agree! Cleaning the vents will stir up a lot of dust, so doing it first makes sense. And after that, you might want the painters to blow off any leftover debris with an air hose to keep things tidy.
