I live on the top floor and one of my windows faces the sun directly in the evening, which makes my room super hot. I'm wondering if those 3M windshield films would do the trick, and if so, which one should I get? I'm also considering UV-blocking roller blinds but can't decide which is better. I don't mind my room being a little darker; I just want to avoid it being completely dark.

It really depends on your window type. If you use a reflective film on some windows, the heat can actually hurt them, so it's better to apply reflective film from the outside. But if it’s safe for your window, a generic heat-blocking reflective film could work wonders. I put some up before and felt a huge difference; it cooled my room down significantly in the afternoon! Just a heads up though, blackout curtains are super effective but they make your room quite dark – great for offices, not so much for living spaces!
Honestly, even a simple sheer curtain can help! It’s surprising how much of a difference it can make, and it’s easy to get something up quickly while you decide on a more permanent solution. If your current curtain isn’t cutting it, maybe try a lighter color or something more sheer.
I’d recommend trying blinds if that’s an option for you. At work, we have those windshield films, but they really can mess up the view and don’t look too great. Blinds might be more practical and still help reduce the heat without ruining the vibe of your room.
