I'm working on creating a fire ring sitting area, and I won't have much foot traffic. I'm wondering how thoroughly I need to wash the pea gravel before using it and what depth I should aim for. Any tips would be appreciated!

Aim for a depth of about 4 inches. Choose a type of gravel that doesn’t have fine particles so it can sort itself out with rain over time. Pea gravel tends to shift, leading to uneven surfaces that you’ll need to rake out. Depending on where you live, limestone chips could work well, or maybe you have granite available that would be perfect.
Honestly, I'd steer clear of pea gravel. Instead, go for angular crushed aggregate. It locks together much better and won't feel like you're walking on a bouncy castle. Trust me on this one!
Definitely! Crushed granite gives you the stability you need.

Crushed granite is the way to go!
