I used to have an in-ground pool, but it developed a leak and I decided to fill it in this year. I found a company to handle the fill-in, and I specifically asked them to just cover it with dirt since I plan to build a new patio over it later. However, a friend saw the work and claims they're doing a terrible job, suggesting that leaving debris like the liner and chunks of concrete in the hole could cause issues in the future. I've checked the company's reviews and references, but now I'm worried that I made the wrong choice. Am I going to face problems when I eventually put the patio in? Did I miss something important in my planning?

When you lay down your patio, footings will definitely help with support, but not all of the area needs them. Just thank your friend and see how it goes; I think it’ll turn out fine!
I had a similar situation with my old pool, and it’s been 7 years with no issues. They filled it with excess soil from a nearby construction, and while it did crack, nothing serious happened. As long as you’re not building right over it, I think you’ll be okay.
Glad to hear it! Sounds like I shouldn’t worry too much.
Sounds like your friend might be overreacting! It’s normal for the ground to settle, and if the company has good reviews, they probably know what they’re doing. As long as you’re not building directly on top of the old pool, it should be fine. Just make sure to monitor it as you go.
Thanks for the reassurance!

Great idea! I’ll definitely show my patio guy the fill photos.
