Looking for Budget-Friendly Alternatives to Indow Window Inserts

Hey everyone! I recently moved into an apartment in downtown Detroit, and I'm really struggling with the noise from the street—it's making it hard for me to sleep. My bedroom has two large double-pane windows (52x80), and while they were installed not too long ago, they don't seem to block out the noise from the exhaust pipes very well. I got a quote from Indow for acoustic window inserts, and it came to about $2,800 for the two windows! That feels a bit steep, especially since I'm just renting. Does anyone have suggestions for more affordable alternatives or solutions? I can't seem to find other companies that offer similar products. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could DIY it! Just know that a thick acrylic panel will cost a bit. Replacing the glass with thicker dual-pane options might be the most affordable long-term solution, but I understand you’re limited as a renter since that might not be an option easily available for you.

Good to know! Since these are already dual pane and I'm renting, I might have to explore some other suggestions. Thanks for the advice!

I’m not convinced those inserts are the only solution. If your building is old, it could be that the real issue isn't just the windows. Sometimes, buildings lack the insulation that new ones have, which could let noise in from the walls or ceiling. Have you considered the building's structure as well?

Thanks for your thoughts! The building is old but was recently renovated and has brick exterior. The new windows seem well-sealed, so I’m thinking it might actually be the glass letting in the noise.

You might want to try heavy drapes or a sound machine, and don’t underestimate earplugs! You can also get used to the noise over time, believe it or not.

Have you heard about Loop Quiet 2 earplugs? They work wonders!

Great tip! I’ll definitely check those out, thanks!
