Why Does My Behr Marquee Color Look Different After Repainting?

A couple of years ago, I painted my walls with Behr Marquee paint from Home Depot. Now I'm trying to touch up a wall, and when I went back to get the same color and sheen, I noticed the new paint is significantly whiter and lacks that ice blue tone I had before. I realized that the colorant ratios are also different according to the label. Is it possible that Behr changed the formulation for this color? They mixed it using the swatch barcode, but even the swatch looks whiter than the original color. Any insights on this?

It might be worth checking the old paint can label more closely. Sometimes, manufacturers change their formulations, or you might have missed some details on the label like the base used. I had a similar situation with a pink Behr color for my daughter's room; I either couldn't find it or it was altered because the samples I got didn't match. It’s frustrating, I know!

Sounds like a tough situation! If you had a photo of the old can, that could definitely help. At least you have the base info, but yeah, if the base was different, that could affect the color quite a bit.

There are several reasons this discrepancy could happen. Some paints can have multiple versions under the same name, which can lead to noticeable differences. If you ordered by name, it’s possible the wrong shade was mixed. It's also possible someone modified the original mix without documenting it. It might even be a case of two different manufacturers using the same name, resulting in different colors. Keep an eye out for those things!

You really should bring an actual paint sample for the best match rather than relying solely on the name. Paint colors fade over time, and factors like lighting can also change how we perceive color. It can definitely catch you off guard!
