How Feasible is Adding a 25′ LVL Beam in My Living Room?

I'm considering installing a 25-foot LVL structural beam in my living room to replace a load-bearing post. However, I'm struggling to find solid reference material, especially images of reinforced outside corner framing for this set-up. I just want to assess if this project is feasible before I move forward with any plans. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

When you're talking about a 25' span, you're likely looking at a 3 or 4 ply beam that's at least 16 inches deep. If you’re aiming for a smooth ceiling finish, you might need to consider adding some steel reinforcement. That could help with the aesthetics and structural integrity!

Have you consulted a structural engineer yet? They can provide specific insights tailored to your situation which is crucial when working with LVLs since they can be quite complex. If you're still in brainstorming mode, it’s a good idea to bring them your initial thoughts and plans!

I haven’t gotten to that step yet, just trying to brainstorm right now.

It's important to note that there aren't standard span tables for LVL beams since they vary in specs. You'll need to check with the manufacturer of the LVLs you plan to use to get the load, span, bearing, and bracing specifications. By the way, is your house a two-story? That could impact the beam's requirements!

Actually, it’s a one-level ranch style house.
