Disappointed with My Bathroom Remodel—What Should I Do?

I recently hired a contractor for a bathroom remodel based on a friend's recommendation, but I'm really unhappy with the final product. They just finished today, and I'm feeling let down by what I see. I think it's important to know whether my disappointment is justified and how best to approach the contractor about it.

I'm particularly concerned about the shower corners, which look poorly done—mostly sharp and uneven. The tiles seem to be sloping and there's noticeable bulging where the corner tiles meet. The grout and caulk job looks messy, and the floor grout doesn't seem right either. I haven't paid the full amount yet, having only settled 30% so far. What should I be asking for when I talk to the contractor tomorrow? Is a complete redo the only fix or are there other options?

I recently went through a remodel too, so I get the struggle. This job sounds unacceptable for the money you’re spending. Stand your ground; if the tiles aren't level, it’s a huge red flag. Good luck with your meeting! Keep pushing for what you deserve.

I would also check your tub for any damage. If the tile work is this bad, they might have mishandled other items too.

So true! And just keep in mind that your contractor should potentially be covering the cost of fixing these mistakes.

This really should be redone. Those corners are a mess, and it sounds like the tile layout wasn't done correctly either. You deserve a bathroom that looks good. When you talk to them, don’t hesitate to push for a complete fix. They should've recognized issues during installation, so hold them accountable.

Definitely follow through with this! If they have any integrity, they’ll want to resolve it, especially with the photos.

Yeah, and if they’re resistant, you might have to consider asking for a partial refund to cover any damages.

Honestly, it sounds like you have every reason to be upset. A professional should definitely ensure the surface is flat and even before laying tiles. If they messed that up, they ought to fix it. I'd recommend being firm with the contractor about your expectations since you haven’t made the final payment yet. You should ask for either a redo or at least some serious corrections.

Totally agree. If they can’t give you a solution that meets those standards, it might be time to find a new contractor.

Make sure to document everything with photos. It'll help support your case when you discuss it with them.
