When’s the Best Time to Plant a Young Oak Tree in Texas?

Hey everyone! I'm living in Texas, where the summers can be pretty intense. My builder is set to plant a young oak tree for me, but I've been avoiding the summer heat. I'm wondering if there's a best time to plant it. Should I go with fall (maybe next month) or just wait for spring? What are the pros and cons of planting in the fall versus spring?

I would suggest Googling Texas A&M's agricultural sites for localized advice. From what I've seen, November through early spring is often recommended for planting in Texas. They have a lot of great information on tree care tailored specifically for our climate.

The ideal time to plant is actually in late winter or early spring. If you plant in the fall, it can allow the tree to establish its roots before the hot summer arrives. Just make sure to water it thoroughly and regularly, especially during the first couple of weeks. The tree will need daily watering initially, transitioning to every few days for the first three months, then weekly if there's less than an inch of rain. It's about helping it adjust well to the Texas heat!

That's a solid tip! I planted my trees in the fall last year, and they did great. Just keep that watering in mind!
