Why Do My Plants Always Get Pests?

I've been struggling with pests on my houseplants, and it's driving me crazy! No matter how careful I am before buying them—checking everywhere for any signs of pests, rinsing them as soon as I bring them home, and even trying different greenhouses or moving countries—it seems like I always end up with issues.

I've noticed thrips on my monstera, spider mites on my bamboo palm, and scale on my olive tree, which I initially mistook for dirt. The hassle of pest control is overwhelming, especially with pets in the house, and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it to keep trying. Are there people out there who really have thriving houses full of plants without dealing with these issues? Or do they just not see the pests? It feels like the struggle of keeping houseplants isn't discussed enough, and I'm at my wits' end!

I totally get your frustration! I've got three floors of plants and somehow have managed to keep them pest-free. I’m pretty aggressive with mosquito bits and systemic granules, but I know those can be risky if you have pets around. It's super hard to maintain that pristine look without some form of pest control, especially considering they can sneak in through windows or on our clothes!

Yeah, I hear you! It seems like the more beautiful the setup, the more likely pests are to show up for a visit. I’ve read that those systemic granules can make plants toxic for pets, which is really scary. Sometimes I wish I had the luxury to use them without worrying!
