What Type of SDS Drill Should I Choose?

I'm a security, fire, and CCTV installation engineer, and I often need to drill through different materials, including some pretty tough ones. For instance, I recently drilled into a 2-foot thick, 700-year-old flint-infused church wall. I've been using a Dewalt 18V SDS for these jobs, which worked fine for a 25mm hole, but I'm curious if a standard SDS drill would be sufficient for similar tasks. Should I consider using an SDS Plus drill for tougher jobs instead? Is it worth having a specific drill for lighter tasks like basic walls versus going with a more robust SDS Plus for heavier-duty work? Also, I'm not looking for a One-Key model, but the vacuum attachment could really come in handy for when I'm working in residential places.

Definitely go for the vacuum attachment if you're working inside homes—it makes a huge difference! It keeps the mess to a minimum, which homeowners appreciate. A standard SDS might manage some tasks, but for those tougher jobs, an SDS Plus will really make your life easier and save you time. I'd suggest getting both an SDS for basic jobs and an SDS Plus for the heavier ones. It’s worth it, trust me!

If you're drilling larger holes like 25mm, the M18FHpx is definitely a solid choice and is great for heavy-duty work. The M12 is good for smaller jobs like plugs or tapcons. Just keep in mind that the M18 series models without One-Key are pretty effective too; the One-Key just offers some additional features you might not need. If you can find a combo deal on SDS Plus bits, that would be useful for your different projects!
