What Could Be Causing This Mysterious Wet Spot on My Rug?

I've noticed a mysterious wet spot appearing on my rug for the second time. It's only on the top two layers of rugs I've got layered, and the base carpet beneath is dry. I have aquariums in my room, but they're not near the wet spot. Today, I was at work all day, so there's no way it could have been a spill. The last time, I thought it might have been a bong I accidentally knocked over, but this time I wasn't even home when it happened. The top rug is really soaked, and while I do have pets, the wetness just smells like water, not anything else. I doubt it's a water leak since the floor underneath is dry, and it's odd for it to happen only twice, weeks apart. I'm stressed about it, and my mom's annoyed—any advice?

Sounds like there might be a sneaky animal doing its business when you're not looking! I’ve had a similar issue where I thought it was something else, but it turned out to be my dog having accidents. If they're drinking a lot, it might not even smell like pee. Just a thought!

I can see where you’d think that, but I doubt my chihuahuas could make that big of a puddle! ? Maybe I should consider getting that camera suggested by someone else to keep an eye on things.

Have you thought about checking above you? Sometimes leaks can come from pipes or other sources up in the ceiling. It’s worth a look, even if the ceiling doesn’t show signs of damage—it might surprise you!

Yeah, I checked that out! The ceiling looks fine, plus it’s a new roof, so I’m not really worried about that part.

I once had a similar problem and it turned out to be my pet, even though I was convinced it wasn’t pee. It can happen, especially if they have health issues. Just keep an eye out for anything unusual with your pets!
