Hey everyone! A few months back, the outlet on my porch just stopped working. I usually handle minor repairs around the house, but I'm lost when it comes to electrical stuff. I've been trying to get my landlord to fix it for ages, but contacting maintenance has been a total nightmare. With the holidays like Halloween and Christmas coming up, I really want to get this outlet working again. Are there any simple troubleshooting steps I can take that are safe for a rental? I can't do anything too complicated, but I'd appreciate any tips you might have. Thanks a ton!

First off, check if there are any other outlets not working. Usually, if one outlet goes down, it could be a sign of a bigger issue. Look for a GFCI reset button, which might not be right at the outlet itself, but somewhere in line. Also, try plugging something into other nearby outlets to see if they work. And don’t forget to check if any circuit breakers have tripped.
Outdoor outlets are often connected to GFCI outlets inside the house, typically in bathrooms or kitchens, so be sure to check those as well. You might even have a GFCI breaker in your main panel that needs resetting. It’s worth checking everything to see if something has tripped!
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check all the GFCIs and see if I can find anything tripped.
If your house is older, especially from the '80s, the circuit might be running through your garage. Sometimes they wire it to outlets there first before heading to outdoor areas. Just make sure to check the garage outlets and any GFCI resets on the back patio too. It could be a simple fix!

I've tested other outlets; every one works except for the lower plug in the living room—top works fine though. I did find a GFCI reset on the outdoor outlet, so I’ll give that a shot. All my breakers look good too. Thanks for your tips!
