Should I Caulk the Baseboard Gap or Use Molding Instead?

I recently refinished my hardwood floors and replaced the baseboard, but I'm not happy with the gap where the baseboard meets the floor. It's pretty unsightly. Should I go ahead and caulk this gap? If so, should I use white caulk or try to match the hardwood floor color? If it's not recommended to caulk, what should I do instead?

If you’re worried about that gap, go for shoe molding but skip the quarter round. I think a stained oak shoe to match the floor is your best bet. Just make sure the joints are coped for a smooth finish—definitely don't caulk it!

This makes sense, thank you for your input!

Nah, I wouldn’t recommend caulking against the wood floor. The wood can move with humidity changes, which will cause the caulk to crack over time. If the gap really bugs you, consider using shoe molding instead—it's a great solution!
