How Should I Build My Router Sled? Wood or Metal?

I'm looking to build a router sled but I'm stuck on how to approach it. I've seen various designs and need some advice on materials. Should I go for something sturdy made from steel angles, or is a wooden build sufficient? I definitely want the bed rails to be wooden, but I'm also considering some metal designs. I'll mainly be working with boards that are about 2 to 3 feet wide and 2 inches thick or less. If anyone has experience or tips with router sleds, I'd really appreciate your insights!

Check out my router sled build here! If you're planning to do a lot of flattening, a planer is a must. Just a heads up though, my sled has a limitation where it can only handle boards up to 1.5 inches thick. I've got all the photos and details in my post, feel free to take a look!

Thanks for sharing! I'm going with the sled since it suits my space better. Do you remember how much you spent on the materials?
