What’s the best way to install a baby gate with round balusters?

I'm looking for advice on how to install a baby gate at the top of my staircase, but the balusters are round all the way up except for the very bottom, which means I can't use a pressure-mounted gate—the one I prefer to avoid nails or screws. Does anyone have suggestions or solutions?

Consider using a wall nanny! It allows you to screw both the top and bottom parts onto the round baluster. The screw helps secure it at the top, while the bottom uses a combination of screw and grip to hold it in place. Definitely a solid option!

Just a heads up, pressure-mounted gates are usually not meant for the top of stairs. It's safer to find a different mounting solution for that area!

You might want to check out some banister adapters that are specifically made to help create a flat surface for mounting. They typically use straps or similar methods to secure the gate without damaging your balusters. For example, there's a product that can really help with installations like yours, just search for banister adapters online!

That adapter looks great but OP's issue seems to be the lack of a flat surface at the top. Maybe they could use worm drive clamps to attach a 2x4 to the post? It might not be the prettiest solution, but it'll get the job done.

I've done something similar! I zip-tied the gate to the banister on one side and attached the other to the wall as usual, using heavy-duty zip ties. It worked for years—just a quick fix until the next child starts crawling!
