Thinking of Leaving My Electrician Job to Start a Gardening Business – Am I Crazy?

Hey everyone! I'm a 22-year-old who just finished a 4-year apprenticeship as an electrician. To be honest, I've never liked the job much, and lately, I've developed a passion for gardening and the idea of starting my own business. While part of me feels silly for ditching my stable job and decent pay after all that hard work, the other part is anxious all the time at work and just doesn't enjoy it. Thankfully, I still live at home with low rent, so I'm thinking this might be the best time to make a change. I have my qualifications to fall back on if it doesn't work out. Has anyone else been in a similar boat? Should I stick it out as an electrician a bit longer or take the plunge into gardening? Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

Go for it! You've got nothing to lose. Watch a few YouTube tutorials on the basics of gardening and get your hands dirty. Life's too short to stay in a job you hate. Just keep in mind that income might dip in winter, so think about services you can offer year-round, like handyman jobs or leveraging your electrical skills!

Totally agree! Plus, transitioning now while you're living at home is smart. You can build your client base before going full-time.

You're definitely not mad! It’s important to enjoy what you do. My dad once left a boring office job to be a postman, and he said it was the best decision ever. Follow your passion!

It's totally doable to start your own gardening business, but consider the season – winter is a slow time for gardening. Maybe work with a company first to get some experience and a steady income.

You could definitely combine your skills! Think about how your electrical knowledge can enhance gardening – things like irrigation systems and outdoor lighting can really set your services apart and pay well. Just a thought!
