I need some advice on a situation with paint we used in our future nursery. We hired a professional painter who used some paint we had from an old job, but it turns out it's about two years old. I had no idea paint could go bad. Now the room smells really bad, and the painter thinks it's likely expired but says it should be fine as long as we air it out. My baby isn't due for another two months, but is it actually safe to use after airing out the room?

You might want to wait a few weeks to see if the smell dissipates. Sometimes it can, but if it persists, using a sealing primer like Zinsser and repainting with a low VOC paint could be a good idea. This way, it’ll have time to gas off before your little one arrives. Best of luck with the nursery!
I've used old paint before without issues, but it really depends on the brand. If you can, check in at your local paint store and ask for their advice. Different paints age differently, and some may be fine even after years. Just make sure to ventilate well when you use it!
