My wife found this cool idea where the top part of a china cabinet is reused as a greenhouse. The basic setup involves building a box on the ground using 4x4 lumber and enclosing it with 2x8 cedar or pressure-treated wood. The cabinet sits on top and is secured to this base. I'm planning to take on this project next spring, but I'm overthinking one part: how do I properly seal the cabinet doors to keep the warmth in and the cold out? I was considering using a rubber seal and some magnets but I'm unsure how strong a magnet I need for it—would 90 lbs be too much? Has anyone tackled a project like this?

For sealing, you might want to use the same kind of strip they use for refrigerator doors. They’re affordable and easy to find. Fridges have magnets built into those seals, so you'd need an extra magnet strip since you're working with a wooden frame. A latch could also work well. I think magnets add a fun touch though!
Honestly, you might not need a super tight seal. Any standard door gasket should work fine. I'm curious though, why a cabinet? Those are likely to rot after a couple of seasons.

Yeah, that was my concern too. It seems like it could end up being a bad idea, but we’ll see!
