I just found out that my barefoot strawberries are arriving today, much earlier than the estimated date of the 24th! My soil is pretty rocky, dry, and not in great shape, plus I've already planted some yam leaves there, which I'm worried might make the soil nutrient-poor. I was planning to build a garden bed for the strawberries, but it's not ready yet. What's the best way to handle this situation?

Strawberries have shallow roots, so you want to give them a good start. If you can, water the area where you plan to plant them and mix a couple of inches of compost into the soil lightly. This will help improve the nutrients and moisture. If you can't plant them right away, consider putting the roots in coir or damp peat moss to keep them safe. Just be sure the tops are above the moisture. Keep them in a bright, shaded spot until you're ready to get them in the ground.

How long do you think I can keep the strawberries in the coir?
