Hey everyone! I'm new to gardening and I'm reaching out for some help. I recently purchased a house in the coastal Southeastern USA where the previous owners dumped sand from the pool all over the yard. So, on top of already having a sandy environment, my backyard is even sandier than the surrounding area. I'm looking for ways to make this yard more usable for gardening in the near future. I do compost (though it's a slow process) and I have two dogs that can help with the natural cycle. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 🙂

Using a shop vac might seem like a stretch, but it could help in some areas where the sand has settled unevenly. However, since the sand's mixed with the soil already, just focusing on improving your soil with compost and organic matter could make a more significant difference in the long run! Trying out some mulch or cover crops could help retain moisture and build up the soil too.
Have you thought about mixing in some good quality garden soil or compost to improve drainage and nutrients? Even adding peat moss or other organic materials could help combat the sandiness. Also, planting certain hardy vegetables might make the transition easier while you work on enhancing the soil.
