Looking for Flowering Plants for a Sunlit Garden Spot

I'm hoping to get some advice on flowers for my garden! My wife is keen on adding some blooms, and while I've usually focused on "ornamental edibles," I want to branch out this time. I have a sunny spot where an old bush will be removed in the spring. I'm curious about what bush or small tree would produce flowers frequently and possibly early. There's even enough room for a small trellis if I decide to grow something like a rose. I'm familiar with vegetables and fruits, but I'm out of my depth with flowers! Any suggestions would be really appreciated. (By the way, I'm in zone 7b.)

You might want to check out dwarf lilac trees. They not only fit the size you’re looking for, but they also bloom frequently and have a great fragrance. Just make sure they get plenty of sunlight!

Consider planting a Major Wheeler honeysuckle vine! It enjoys sunny spots and can add a lovely touch with its vibrant blooms. Plus, if you have a trellis, it will train beautifully along it.
