Is it possible to raise my low kitchen cabinets?

Hey everyone! I recently discovered that the cabinets in my 70's-built house were installed too low, causing a bit of a headache for me. There's a gap of about 15 inches above them in open space, but the cabinets are only 14 inches above my countertop, leaving me with little room for my appliances. Can I remove these cabinets and reinstall them higher, or am I going to have to start over completely?

It really depends on how your cabinets are installed. If they were attached with screws, it should be pretty straightforward. But if they're nailed to the wall, removal might be more challenging. Just be careful, some older cabinets from the 70's are tricky to get off the wall!

Phew! Thankfully mine are screwed in, and they're in good shape!

You should be able to move them, but do a test run with one cabinet first. Some might be glued and screwed, making removal tricky and risking wall damage. Just be prepared for that—better to check first!

Yikes! I’ll definitely test one first before I get my hopes up.

Yes, you can definitely move them if there's enough space above! Just keep in mind that the backsplash might be a bit short after the change. Since you've got open space above the cabinets, that gives you a good chance to raise them up without too much hassle!

Thank you for the encouragement!
