I'm searching for sources to find scrap hardwood, specifically rough pieces ranging from 6/4 to 8/4 thickness (no thinner than 1.25" if they're milled). I need these for a project, with the pieces being 8" x 8" in size. I've called around some wood suppliers, but it appears that many just burn their scrap or cutoffs. Does anyone have suggestions on where I might find what I need in Northeast Ohio?

There are definitely hardwood dealers scattered around, and some people with bandsaw mills harvest local trees for lumber. A quick search could connect you with some local options. I think Woodmizer used to provide a list of sawmill owners in your area, so that could be a good resource too.
Honestly, check out local hardwood dealers—many sell smaller pieces perfect for crafters, so you don’t have to buy long boards. Those might be a better option than the traditional wood suppliers. Have you tried looking at actual hardwood lumber shops?
It's rare for them to just give away the stuff they sell, but maybe look for workshops where they sell finished products instead of raw wood. Considering the size you’re after, I wouldn’t expect to snag it for free—but it can’t hurt to ask! Most of my own shop scrap is smaller than that unless I have some straighter pieces stashed away for projects.
I totally get that! I’m not looking for it for free—I’d pay for it. I just don’t need enough to justify buying entire boards.

Yeah, that's what I meant by wood suppliers. I've been reaching out to hardwood shops and sawmills with no luck yet.
