Thoughts on a Tool Identification App?

Asked By CleverFox82 On

I'm working on an app idea that allows users to snap a photo of any tool and get information about it, including what the tool is, how to use it, safety tips, and potentially tutorials or where to buy one. I'm really looking for feedback on whether this app would be helpful. Specifically, would it benefit you? What information would you find most useful after identifying a tool (like name, usage, safety, maintenance tips)? Are there any features that could make it more useful for everyday projects, like tracking tools or sharing with a team? I'm eager to hear any ideas that could make this app a go-to for users!

Not to dampen any spirits, but there's been a really detailed tool dictionary by RA Salaman for ages. Plus, identifying a tool is pretty quick on a computer or smartphone. The real challenge is sifting through reviews online to find what's genuinely useful versus what's just marketing hype. Just something to think about!

It sounds like an interesting concept, but there are apps like Google Image search that can already do a basic job of identifying tools. Your app needs to stand out by providing unique value beyond just identification. Maybe focus on features that help users maintain or utilize their tools better, rather than just identifying them. That said, if you can add value, it could work!

Thanks for the feedback! What specific unique features do you think would make the app more valuable?

Honestly, I'm not sure how often people need to identify tools on the fly. It seems like this is more of a niche need. The additional features you mentioned, like usage tips, seem like they're trying to solve a problem that might not exist for most people. It sounds like a solution looking for a problem to me.

I appreciate your perspective! If there are other challenges you face with tools that could use an app solution, I'd love to know!
