Has anyone successfully moved their washer/dryer from the basement to upstairs?

I'm looking to move my washer and dryer from the basement to the second floor of my home. It would be so much more convenient to have them closer to our bedrooms. I know there's existing plumbing up there since we have two bathrooms, but when I asked a plumber about it, he said it would be too complicated and costly. He recommended waiting until we do a major renovation to even think about it. I'm curious if anyone has experience with this kind of move or if you think it can be done without a huge expense. I'm located in NJ, by the way!

I made a similar move from the basement, and it worked out fine! Sure, I had to sacrifice a closet space, but it wasn't too complex overall. You will need to work on rerouting the drain line and ensuring you have proper hookups, but it’s totally doable with the right contractor. Don’t let one plumber's opinion deter you!

That’s reassuring to hear! I might just explore this further and see what options I have.

I live in a high-rise in NYC and we've got our washer/dryer here. It’s super convenient! I wouldn't go back to using a laundromat ever again, so I say go for it if you're willing to make the changes. Just find a good contractor to make sure it’s done right!

I totally get where you're coming from! It's frustrating when contractors paint a whole project as too costly without breaking it down. I'd definitely recommend getting a few quotes from different plumbers. It's possible that it's just not their area of expertise. You might find someone who is up for the challenge!

Exactly! It’s all about finding the right person who can work with the layout you have.
