Looking for Inexpensive Ideas for a DIY Desk Top

I'm planning to build my own desk and I want to make it around 84 inches long. I'm on the lookout for a budget-friendly option for the desk top. I'd prefer not to use an IKEA tabletop for my project. Any suggestions?

A solid option would be to go for pre-fab tops from places like Staples. They’re pretty durable and come in different sizes. If you're feeling adventurous, you could also build your own butcher block, although that's likely to be on the pricier side. Otherwise, 3/4" plywood from a big box store is affordable too—about $75. You can double it for extra thickness and customize it to your liking with some stain and finish!

Absolutely! Plus, you can make the edges look nice with banding, which is a cool DIY touch.

That 3/4" plywood idea sounds great! You could really personalize it with the stain.

If you like the idea of bamboo, check out Amazon! I saw some vendors selling custom bamboo desktop slabs that might fit your needs nicely. I have a bamboo desk myself and really enjoy it.

Have you considered using an old wooden door? They're often inexpensive and can add a unique look to your desk!
