I just bought a new house and need to install six smoke alarms. I'm looking for specific features: they should be hard-wired, controllable via a phone app, and also detect carbon monoxide. Additionally, I prefer alarms that don't have a night-light feature, or at least one that can be turned off. I'm disappointed to find out that the Nest system I've relied on for years has been discontinued, and I'm struggling to find a decent replacement. What do you all use?

If you want something reliable, check out First Alert. They have hardwired options that connect to smart home systems. You could wire them up with a smart relay for notifications, which I think is pretty cool. I have that setup, and it works great for me!
Honestly, your expectations seem a bit high for smoke alarms. I usually just grab a simple $30 smoke detector, pop in some batteries, and call it a day. I mean, why do you need an app for your smoke alarm? For me, the simpler, the better. I want something that's reliable without all the extra tech fuss.
Well, app connectivity can actually be really handy. It lets you know which alarm is going off or if there's an issue without having to run around the house. I find it helpful to get those alerts while I’m out! But I get it, everyone has their preference.
I recently switched to the X Sense alarms; they aren't hard-wired, but they meet most of your other needs. It's sad the Nest is gone—they were fantastic! And the app control helps when you're not home and an alarm goes off. Definitely worth considering!
I've seen those on Amazon, but I'm a bit hesitant since I haven't heard much about the brand. Too bad they don't have a hardwired option!

True, but it’s not just about tech. I think having alerts for smoke or CO is essential, especially when you’re away from home. It’s all about peace of mind!
