How to Vent a Stove Hood Through an Exterior Wall without Staining?

I'm really excited to be installing our stove vent, but instead of going through the roof, we want to vent it out the side of our house. I'm worried about the potential for smoke or grease stains accumulating on our redwood siding over time. Has anyone dealt with this? I'd love to hear your advice or experiences!

I’ve got white vinyl siding with a wall exhaust and no staining issues either. Should work well for you!

If you're still worried about stains, you could vent out with an L-shaped pipe to keep steam away from your wall directly. Just a thought!

That’s a great idea, thanks!

I have a wall vent for my stove and my house has cedar shingles. After 25 years, I’ve never noticed any grease stains on the outside. Just be mindful of pesky dryer lint instead!

That's really comforting to hear! Thanks!

When you're venting, there should be a kit that includes a damper and a bug screen. If you're worried about grease stains, just remember: if you're boiling water with grease that much, you might want to cut back on it! Once it's out, the grease tends to carry away in the wind and shouldn't settle on your house.
