I have a lower patio with a hose hookup, and there's a hole in the wooden deck above it. It's perfectly sized for a 1-2 inch hose, which I was thinking of using to run water up to the upper patio. I plan to add a splitter to the lower faucet with separate valves. I'm just wondering if this setup could lead to problems down the road. I want to water some plants and wash the upper patio, and there's enough space for a hose caddy at the hole. Is this a smart move, or is there a better solution?

It's totally safe to test out the hose situation. Just remember to drain it or shut it off before winter to prevent any frozen pipes. Otherwise, it should hold up fine for watering purposes.
As long as you have proper cutoffs and don't keep the hose full of water all the time, running it up shouldn't be a big deal. Just keep an eye on it for leaks and make sure you remove it in winter to avoid freezing.
But what's the downside of leaving the water on with the hose not running? Is there a risk?
If you really want to keep it pressurized, I suggest running PVC instead of a hose. It's less likely to crack and easier to maintain. Just be sure to drain it after use to avoid any heavy water buildup in the line.
