Hey everyone! I'm a first-time teacher and new to shop class this semester. I'm starting off with a plywood puzzle project to help my students get familiar with some basic tools like the miter saw and bandsaw. Now, I'm looking for ideas for their next project that will utilize what they've learned so far and introduce them to tools like the table saw, planer, jointer, and router. Ideally, I'd like something they can complete in a couple of weeks, using materials like cherry and oak. Any suggestions on projects or links to plans would be really appreciated!

How about CO2 race cars? They were one of my favorite projects in shop class. You can use a drill press for the canister hole, a bandsaw for shaping the car, and teach them about finishes too!
How about a practical project that they can use at home? Some suggestions could be a shelf, a key holder, or even a phone stand. You could also consider a laptop stand or a lap desk. If you have the time, it might be fun to ask the students what they’d like to make. Sure, you’ll get some silly ideas, but there could be some good ones in there too!
You might consider having them build a box to store the puzzles they create. It's simple, functional, and teaches them basic joining techniques!
I love the idea of making useful items! Key holders, bedside tables, or step stools are all excellent choices. They can be simple or get more creative, depending on your students' skills.
