First-Time Gardener Needs Help Reseeding a Lawn in Cornwall!

Hey everyone! My partner and I just bought our first house, and it came with a gigantic garden that was quite overgrown – think tall grass and lots of weeds. We've managed to cut most of it back, but I have a feeling the grass is dead and we'll need to reseed it. We're complete newbies when it comes to gardening, and with our little boy turning one soon, we want to make the garden a fun and safe space for him to play. I'd really appreciate some straightforward advice on how to reseed the lawn, including what type of grass seed is best to use. Someone mentioned grass that can help with weeds, so I'm curious about that too! Oh, and just for context, we live in Cornwall, where I've heard the soil can have some unique properties due to the mining history. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you can, post some photos of the garden! Grass tends to be pretty resilient, and with some rain, it might surprise you and come back to life!

I’ll take some photos today and post them! I read that if the grass is dry and the roots are brown, they might be completely dead, but I’ll share pictures anyway!
