I'm wondering if anyone has experience drying green onions since I've got a surplus this year. How did it turn out for you? Did you find it effective for saving them for later?

Yes! I typically mince and dehydrate mine, and they keep really well. They’re super handy to toss into soups or dips, plus you can even use them for homemade bagel seasonings. Another option is to freeze them if you want to throw them into stews or soups later on!

That’s a good idea! Freezing sounds like an easy way to use them without drying if someone prefers their fresh flavor.

I’ve dried green onions before, and it works well for making powder or flakes. I wouldn’t recommend drying them in slices, though, as they don’t hold up as nicely. Just stick to the powdered form for the best results!

Definitely try making a powder! I used to sprinkle it on popcorn for a sour cream and onion flavor. It’s one of my favorite seasoning blends. If you have excessive Egyptian walking onions, drying them could be a great way to manage the supply!
