What Can I Use Hemlock For?

I found a lumber yard nearby that sells rough-cut hemlock, and I've never worked with it before. I know it's a softwood and that it's cheaper than the pine they sell. I'm wondering if it's suitable for things like sheds, framing, or just quick projects? Can it also be used in woodworking or for making furniture? I'd prefer to avoid buying it if it's not very versatile.

Hemlock is super cheap, and while it has its uses, it's not great for outdoor projects since it doesn't hold up to the weather. You’ll often see it used for pergolas and truck sideboards, but for indoor projects like a rustic bench or a workbench, it could work well. Just keep in mind that it’s not the most durable option.

Yeah, the rot resistance of hemlock is kind of a mixed bag. Up in New England, people have made barns from it that’ve lasted for decades without treatment.
