Will a Salt Humidifier Harm My Indoor Plants?

Asked By PlantLover42 On

I'm considering trying a salt water diffusing humidifier in my bedroom due to some chronic health issues. I've heard that it can help others with similar problems, but I'm worried about how it might affect my plants. I keep a variety of indoor plants, including calatheas, ferns, aglaonemas, string of turtles, silver squill, ZZ plants, a Dutchman's pipe, a tricolor stromanthe, a pitcher plant, and a cape sundew. My main concerns are regarding the stromanthe, maidenhair fern, and the carnivorous plants, as I know these tend to be more sensitive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I'd say this could be risky for your plants. Salt can create a toxic environment, and it might be best to move them out of the room if you can. Keeping them safe is important! ?

That makes sense. Unfortunately, there aren't many options for relocating them, so I guess you'll just have to find a different solution.

What humidifier are you using? If it's a saline nebulizer, that might be okay, but a regular salt diffuser could definitely cause problems for your plants.

I hadn't even thought of a saline nebulizer! That seems a lot easier. Thanks for the recommendation!
