Hey everyone! I've had two consultants come by to help me figure out how to insulate my garage ceiling and basement, and they offered really conflicting advice. One suggested, 'Don't remove the sheetrock! Just make a hole and insulate that way.' The other was more skeptical, saying, 'Any contractor willing to spray blindly into your walls and ceilings clearly doesn't know what they're doing.' I'm confused about which approach is better! What do you think?

It sounds like they have different approaches in mind. Honestly, tearing out the sheetrock might be more thorough since you'll be able to see everything, but there are definitely less invasive methods too. Spraying into the wall cavities can work especially for older homes where you don’t want a huge mess, but it could have its limits. You should ask them more about their products and techniques to find a balance between effectiveness and hassle.
As an electrician, I can tell you that some of those bays might be blocked, which could cause issues if they can't get the insulation in properly. Spraying ‘blindly’ does sound risky, but it’s funny because we do a similar thing with wiring. Just make sure you ask more about how they plan to ensure everything gets insulated correctly without doing too much damage.

Yeah, that makes sense! I wonder if they dismiss the other technique because it seems less ideal.
