Can I Use Titebond 3 with Oil Stained Plywood?

Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a custom slatwall project using solid hardwood, and I've hit a snag. I'm planning to stain a plywood backer black before I glue and screw the hardwood slats onto it. My main question is, will Titebond 3 bond properly to oil-stained plywood? Or should I consider other adhesives instead? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've used Titebond 3 on stained wood plenty of times and it worked out great! Staining first can actually be easier since glue doesn’t absorb stain well, so it ends up looking pretty messy if you do it the other way around. Just make sure the stain is completely dry before you apply the glue. If you're uncertain, my advice is to test it out on some scrap pieces first to be safe!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm a bit worried since I've read mixed reviews online about this. I’ve come across suggestions for using Gorilla Glue or polyurethane, but those seem like they'd make a real mess. Do you think Titebond is really a reliable choice?
