Why Does My Compound Miter Saw Stop When Cutting Wood?

Asked By WoodHacker42 On

I have a SKIL Compound Miter Saw, and I've run into a weird issue. Whenever I try to cut wood, it stops almost immediately after touching the material. On the other hand, once the blade is up to speed, it keeps spinning for ages before finally slowing down. I've been using this saw pretty heavily all summer, and I haven't done a thorough cleaning since changing the blade and plate. Is this an indicator that the motor is wearing out, or does it just need a good cleaning? Any advice would be appreciated!

Sounds like your blade might just be loose! I’ve had that happen before, and it caused a similar issue. Definitely worth checking, especially if you've been swapping out blades. Glad to hear you're on the right track now!

Thank you... now I feel extra stupid... It's been a long day haha, that was the issue. Thanks!

Been there, done that! It's one of those things that can really trip you up.

Hey, are you sure the blade is installed in the right direction? Sometimes that can stop the saw from cutting properly. Just a thought!

I'd been using it for months, so no, it turned out to just be loose.
