Should I Trust My Sketchy Painters to Finish Fast, or Wait for a Reliable One?

Hey folks, I recently bought a house to remodel and flip. After a solid experience with my siding guy, I turned to his recommended painter for the interior job. I got four bids, all around $10k, and chose the one that included some drywall work. I paid half upfront, but after two weeks of painting, the quality was awful. The color I requested wasn't followed, and they used flat paint on the trim and ceilings, which just looks terrible. They claimed the ceilings had issues because of previous homeowners, which I know isn't true. I confronted them about the mess, and they ended up offering to repaint for free if I covered the remaining balance afterwards. However, I later discovered they used exterior paint inside, which is unacceptable. I had a reputable painter inspect the work, and he confirmed it was a total botch job. Now I'm torn between rushing the original guys for a quick fix or waiting six weeks for a trustworthy painter that I know will get it right. What should I do?

Did you try hiring a contractor that your bank recommends? When you do it through them, they usually keep the contractors accountable for their work. That could have saved you a lot of this headache you’re facing now!

I did pay in cash, so I didn’t go through the bank this time. Lesson learned!

Honestly, you've already been burned once by those guys. Rushing now is just going to lead to more headaches down the line. If you go with the sketchy painters, you might end up spending even more time and money fixing their mistakes later. Take a breath, wait for the reliable painter, and do it right.

Exactly! Cutting corners now will only create more issues in the future. Better to take the time and get it done properly.

You mentioned needing to sell ASAP, but flipping a house in a hurry often leads to problems for the next owner. You might want to consider that waiting is going to be better for everyone involved in the long run. Plus, working with a reputable contractor means the quality will be there, and it'll save you money in repairs later!
