Need Help with Pull Down Attic Ladders and Spring Mechanisms

I'm trying to figure out a way to create a pull-down mechanism for a wooden cover from my attic that's accessible to the floor. I want to attach a pull-down ladder that comes down with the wood piece. I've seen some metal spring-like accordion mechanisms that compress into a V or X shape, but I'm struggling to describe them well enough to find more information or a picture online. Any ideas on what these might be called or how I can set this up?

You might want to check options for attic ladders specifically designed for tight spaces. If your attic access is an unusual size like 22.5" by 29.5", standard solutions might not work without some custom modifications. It can get pricey, though—some of these compact options can start around $850! Do you have a specific design in mind?

I'm not exactly sure yet. I've seen scissor stairs that come down, but I'm hoping to find something with springs on both sides of a wooden piece that can reach the ground, and a type of ladder that goes up into the attic like you might find on submarines. Maybe something like that would work?

It sounds like you're looking for attic stairs, or more specifically, a pull-down attic ladder. Just make sure you measure the dimensions of your access hole carefully; width and length are key to finding the right fit for your space!
