What’s the Best Way to Keep Weeds Out of Landscape Rocks?

I recently purchased a home in Florida, and the yard is covered with landscape rocks. While there was a fabric barrier installed before the rocks, it's been years, and now weeds are pushing through. What are some effective methods to prevent weeds from growing in a rock landscape?

I totally get your struggle! I have the same issue with lava rocks in my yard, and it's frustrating when the weeds come through the fabric. I’ve been seriously considering switching to concrete, as it seems like the only long-term solution!

If you're okay with using chemicals, I'd suggest applying a weed killer monthly or just spot spraying areas that need it. It’s pretty effective if you keep up with it. Another option is using a propane torch on any weeds that pop up. It's surprisingly satisfying to see them wilt and die off! Just make sure to use it safely. Good luck!

Honestly, pulling weeds by hand can be effective, but it's definitely a chore. To really tackle the problem, you might need to remove the rocks and clear out the dirt underneath, but that sounds like a huge job! A faster method could be to use a weed torch; it burns the weeds and the ash helps build soil over time. Just be cautious with that method!
