Best Options for Vinyl Flooring in a Basement with Moisture Concerns?

Hey everyone! I'm getting ready to finish my basement and need some advice on installing vinyl flooring. This space will be my home office and a place for friends to hang out. We've had a few issues with minor water spots from flooding in the past, but nothing too severe. My main worry is how to protect against moisture. I was thinking about applying a coat of epoxy to the concrete floor, but I've heard that vinyl might not stick well on epoxy. Some people suggest using a builder's tarp instead, but I'm worried that could trap moisture and lead to mold, especially since I'll be spending a lot of time down there. If epoxy is the way to go, I'd love to know what type is best for a DIY project. Thanks for any guidance!

I’d really think twice about putting any type of flooring over a surface that gets puddles. Mold can definitely grow underneath, especially if you have a damp environment. Concrete should either stay bare, or go with tiles or carpet for basements. A ventilated subfloor might work if you're keen on vinyl, but remember that heating can complicate moisture issues, unless your slab is modern and well-sealed.

Yeah, it was just one instance in a decade of living there, right? If you're not experiencing consistent flooding, it might not be as big of a deal. Just keep an eye out for moisture after your prep work!
